Arabic Localization for App Stores

Arabic localization for App Store and Google Play in the UAE: native copy, RTL screenshots, keyword strategy, and QA—so your Arabic listing converts like a product built for the region.

Arabic store presence is not a checkbox labelled “add language.” It is a second product narrative: different search behaviour, different trust cues, and a visual system that must work right-to-left. Teams that paste machine-translated English into the Arabic fields underperform against banks and consumer apps that sound native.

Decide the job of Arabic in your growth model

Three common postures:

  1. Parity product — mass-market consumer app; Arabic is mandatory for scale.
  2. Segment product — expat-first niche with selective Arabic for support and trust.
  3. Brand prestige — bilingual is part of being a UAE brand even if analytics skew English.

Be honest. Parity without Arabic UI inside the app creates a bait-and-switch when the store is Arabic but onboarding is English-only—reviews will say so.

What to localize (full stack)

  • App name strategy (Arabic script vs keep Latin brand)
  • Subtitle / short description
  • Keyword field (Apple) and long description (Play)
  • Screenshots and videos
  • In-App Events / promotional content
  • What’s New
  • Privacy nutrition labels explanations where user-facing
  • Review replies

Half-localizing screenshots only is a frequent GCC failure mode.

Linguistic quality bar

Hire native Arabic marketing writers familiar with Gulf usage. Modern Standard Arabic is the default for UI chrome; Gulf-friendly phrasing can appear in marketing lines when brand-appropriate. Avoid:

  • Literal English idioms (“hit the ground running”)
  • Levantine or Egyptian slang if your brand voice is UAE corporate—unless that is intentional
  • Broken gender agreement and definite articles that scream MT

Legal and fintech terms need specialist review (Islamic banking phrases, licensed activities).

Keyword research in Arabic

Mirror the English process with Arabic-first seeds from autocomplete on devices set to Arabic. Include:

  • Category nouns users actually type
  • Common Arabizi only if data shows store search usage (often less than social)
  • Brand Latin + Arabic category combinations

Do not fill Apple’s Arabic keyword field with English leftovers. Do not transliterate every English term if Arabic script queries dominate.

Sample Arabic store metadata (fintech / delivery style)

(Fast transfers and easy bill pay)
(Order from your favourite restaurants and track the rider live across the UAE.)
(Manage your monthly spending clearly)
(Delivery to your door — live tracking)
(Faster payments and better Arabic support in notifications.)

RTL design requirements

  • Mirror screenshot compositions; progress bars and chevrons face correctly.
  • Numerals: decide on Arabic-Indic vs Western digits per brand standards and app UI.
  • Caption boxes expand for longer Arabic lines—reflow, don’t shrink to unreadable sizes.
  • Avoid stacking English UI captures under Arabic captions as a permanent solution.

Store console setup tips

Create complete Arabic localizations in App Store Connect and Play Console rather than relying on device language fallbacks. Preview listings on physical devices with Arabic system language. Check truncation in titles—Arabic can feel tighter visually.

Conversion differences to expect

Arabic listings can show different CVR for the same app because audience intent and competition differ. Do not kill Arabic after one week of lower volume; evaluate quality of users (retention, KYC completion, purchase) not only install CPI.

Launch sequence for Arabic

  1. Product strings coverage audit (onboarding, payments, errors).
  2. Metadata draft + legal.
  3. Screenshot capture in AR UI.
  4. Soft release localization.
  5. Monitor reviews mentioning language.
  6. Align Arabic UA landing on Arabic CPP / listing.

Mistakes that waste budget

  • Translating once at launch, never updating for new features.
  • Using the same English screenshots with Arabic text overlays that cover the UI.
  • Ignoring Arabic reviews while meticulously answering English ones.
  • Assuming Gulf users only search in English because your office does.

Arabic ASO is how UAE apps show respect and win share. Pair it with category-specific guides for fintech and marketplaces where language and trust intertwine most tightly.

Glossary and term ownership

Build a living glossary shared by product, support, and ASO: app module names, fee labels, button verbs (Pay, Transfer, Track), and regulated phrases. When store Arabic says one thing and the UI says another, trust collapses at the worst moment—first session. Assign a glossary owner; changes go through the same review as English product copy.

Include “do not translate” brand tokens and Latin product names users already search. Forcing Arabic script onto a brand that only exists in Latin in ads creates discovery friction.

Arabic screenshot production pipeline

  1. Ship Arabic UI strings to a staging build.
  2. Seed demo data with realistic AED and local addresses.
  3. Capture flows with system language Arabic.
  4. Design RTL caption layouts from a dedicated Figma component set.
  5. Native linguistic QA on captions (not only UI).
  6. Export and upload as a complete Arabic localization, not a partial patch.

Budget time for reflow: Arabic captions often need +20–40% width versus English. If you squeeze them into English frames, quality signals “afterthought.”

Reviews, support, and the store as one Arabic system

Users who install from an Arabic listing expect Arabic help. Align:

  • Store review replies
  • In-app help centre language switcher
  • Chatbot / WhatsApp support language routing
  • Push notification language preferences

ASO that stops at the listing while support is English-only generates one-star essays that tank conversion for the next visitor.

Measuring Arabic ROI without vanity

Track Arabic listing CVR, Arabic query ranks you care about, share of Arabic reviews, and activation rate of users who installed from Arabic pages (when analyzable). If Arabic CVR trails English, debug creative and relevance before concluding “Arabic users convert worse”—often the listing quality gap is the cause.

Phased rollout for startups

Phase A: Arabic metadata + screenshot captions on English UI (temporary honesty: don’t claim full Arabic app). Phase B: Arabic UI for onboarding and core loop. Phase C: Full parity including seasonal events and CPPs.

Communicate phase honestly in the listing. Overclaiming language support is a compliance and review risk as much as a UX issue.

Working with agencies

Brief agencies with glossary, examples of bad MT, competitor Arabic screenshots you admire, and non-goals (no dialect experiments without approval). Require editable sources and a native reviewer independent from the original translator when stakes are high (fintech).
