Multi-Channel Reporting: One Source of Truth

Create one UAE marketing source of truth that reconciles Google, Meta, WhatsApp, calls, and CRM—without double-counting every platform’s ROAS.

Multi-channel reporting: one source of truth

“One source of truth” does not mean living inside a single ad UI. It means one agreed ledger where spend, pipeline, and revenue meet — even if plumbing still pulls from Google Ads, Meta, GA4, call tracking, WhatsApp tools, and a CRM. Without that ledger, every channel owner arrives with a flattering screenshot and the loudest story wins the budget.

What the source of truth is (and is not)

Is: controlled data + written definitions + a reporting view used for budget decisions.

Is not: Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, or GA4 alone. Those are channel systems of record for delivery and optimisation. They are allowed to disagree with each other. They are not allowed to silently replace finance.

Why UAE stacks need a ledger more than most

Journeys routinely jump rails:

  • Instagram → WhatsApp → site visit
  • Search ad → phone call → WhatsApp quote
  • Influencer code → branded search → purchase
  • Marketplace + owned site competing for the same SKU

If you only sum platform conversions, you will “acquire” more customers than exist in the emirate.

The four-table ledger (Sheets are fine)

  1. Spend daily — date, channel, campaign, spend AED, clicks, platform
  2. Inquiries — timestamp, channel, campaign, type (form / call / whatsapp), status
  3. Outcomes — won/lost, value AED, close date, foreign key to inquiry
  4. Definitions — channel dictionary, stage meanings, exclusion rules

If perfect IDs are impossible in month one, start with daily aggregates by channel. Aggregates beat screenshots.

Reconciliation rules worth tattooing on the process

  • Platform conversion totals are not additive across platforms
  • Company new customers ≤ any sum of platform claims
  • Brand Search is always separate from non-brand prospecting
  • Cancelled jobs and refunds reverse revenue
  • Staff tests and agency QA clicks are excluded
  • View-through claims need explicit labelling if you show them at all

When marketing and finance sign the same rules, meetings shrink.

Naming alignment is half the work

Your UTM standard and CRM source fields must share a vocabulary:

google_cpc, meta_paid_social, tiktok_paid_social, organic_search, organic_social, referral, whatsapp_broadcast, offline_event, marketplace

Unmapped spend over AED 500 in a week is a bug, not a rounding error.

Where the ledger should live

OptionBest forWatch-outs
Google SheetsMost SMEs under serious but not enterprise spendLock structure; limit editors
Looker Studio on topPresentationPretty layer ≠ clean data
CRM reportingSales-led orgs already in CRMWeak spend unless imported
Warehouse + BIMulti-brand, high volumeCost, maintenance, overkill early

Master Sheets before BigQuery cosplay.

Weekly consolidation workflow (~90 minutes)

  1. Pull spend (export or connector)
  2. Pull new inquiries and stage changes
  3. Deduplicate (e.g. same phone within 7 days — document the rule)
  4. Attach wins using your fixed company attribution rule
  5. Refresh the owner dashboard
  6. Note anomalies (tracking breaks, spam waves, stockouts)
  7. Log one budget or ops decision

WhatsApp and calls belong in the schema

Inquiry types at minimum:

  • wa_paid, wa_organic
  • call_paid, call_organic
  • form
  • store_walkin if relevant

Otherwise everything becomes a vague “lead.” Instrument with call tracking and offline conversion import so channel algorithms improve while the ledger remains primary for humans.

Company attribution rule (stable for a quarter)

Pick one and freeze it:

  • First non-direct marketing touch within 28 days, or
  • First paid touch, with organic reported beside it, or
  • Last non-direct for slow B2B sales cycles

It will be imperfect. Stability beats perfection. Platform-level models can differ without rewriting the company ledger every week. Background: attribution models.

Quality gates before you publish the week

  • Spend matches ad accounts within agreed tolerance (fees, FX, refunds)
  • Inquiry counts roughly match CRM
  • No silent channel with material spend
  • Offline upload errors cleared
  • Sudden Direct / None spikes explained via UTM failures

If gates fail, mark the week provisional. Bad certainty is more dangerous than a delay.

Illustrative scenario: site + Instagram + marketplace

A retail brand sold through its site, social, and a marketplace. Three teams claimed growth. The ledger forced contribution after ads, discounts, returns, and marketplace fees. Social’s “wins” shrank after returns; non-brand Search held; marketplace bids needed caps. The source of truth did not invent growth — it stopped cross-subsidising losers.

Agency and freelancers

Put into the working agreement:

  • Report into the company schema
  • Provide raw exports on request
  • Changelog for conversion definition changes
  • Monthly reconciliation with finance

Detail: agency reporting.

Automate only after the manual rhythm works

After 6–8 clean weeks:

  • Scheduled spend connectors
  • CRM webhooks for stages
  • Alerts when spend arrives without inquiries

Automating a broken definition multiplies pain.

Common failures

  • Three competing “sources of truth” (agency, marketing, sales)
  • Rewriting attribution weekly to win arguments
  • Ignoring wholesale, marketplace, or offline
  • No named human owner of the ledger

Closing

One source of truth is a management decision enforced by a ledger, not a software SKU. Make it boring, shared, and decisive — then let channel UIs go back to being flight controls rather than courtrooms.

Minimum viable “truth pack” for a Dubai SME this month

You do not need a data warehouse to start. Ship this pack in week one:

  1. A locked Sheet with the four tables above
  2. A one-page definitions doc signed by owner + agency
  3. A Monday refresh ritual with a named operator
  4. An owner dashboard that reads only from the ledger
  5. A red/amber/green tracking note each week

By week four you should be able to answer, without five logins: spend, inquiries, wins, CAC. Everything else is refinement — CAPI, fancier attribution, deeper ecommerce funnels.

If your team cannot maintain the Sheet, they will not maintain BigQuery either. Honesty about ops capacity is part of measurement maturity.
